So apparently the Mets are interested in a couple big name pitchers...
Not sure if I'd welcome such a deal. So far the names I keep hearing are Johan Santana, Erik Bedard, Joe Blanton, and Danny Haren. Now, trading for any of these pitchers would seriously cripple our farm system. I'm a big fan of our young players. We have three very good outfield prospects in Lastings Milledge, Carlos Gomez, and Fernando Martinez. We also have three young studs in the pitching department with Phil Humber, Mike Pelfrey, and Kevin Mulvey. Of all those big-name pitchers, I believe Joe Blanton would be the easiest to get. The A's probally wouldn't ask for as much as him as they would say Dan Haren. Johan Santana, the big daddy of the three, would require much more than the prospects. It would also take a good $150 million to waive his no-trade cost a accept the trade. Now, if I had a choice on who they should take, I would pick Dan Haren. He'd still require some big-name prospects, but he'd be affordable for the forseeable future. Plus, he's still young and would fit nicely into our rotation. But in the end, if we get any of the mentioned players, I'd be happy.
