Oh man...this was about one month ago and I'm just writing about it. Well, things went alright for me I guess. I came in thinking I'd do horrible, with a 30+ minute time. Turns out, that wasn't the case. As a matter of fact, I lowered my time down to 25:47. I did not see that one coming to tell you the truth. Anyway, I had to get up really early, like 5:30 just to get some breakfast and be at Hermitage by 6:30. Bet pops liked that one... Anyway, we got there and the place was crowded. There must've been 20+ schools there. When we got there, it was only 7 something so I had four hours to kill. We walked the course and did our warmups, the same ol' routine we do all the time. We watched the other races as well, rooting for Hermitage every step of the way. By the time it was time for my race, my nerves had calmed down. My heart was still beating pretty fast, but I was doing better than I had normally been before races.
Anyway, it was time for the JV race. We line up with the other teams and listen to the rules they say every time. You'd think we'd get the point by now. Anyway, the guy pulls out his gun and pulls the trigger. Right from the start I knew this was going to be a fast race. Course, the coach said the exact same thing the day before...haha. Oh well, I listened to what he said and followed his advice on the pace and everything. By the 1st mile though I wasn't feeling the greatest. Looks like the nerves were getting to me. Right after the first hill I started puking. Didn't look pretty I bet, but I got back right into the race. 2 miles later I'm getting near the finish. I knew I was making good time, I just knew it. Maybe it had something to do with the times my coaches and teamates kept yelling, I don't know...you be the judge. Anyway, I start to descent up the last hill to the finish line. By now I'm dead. I'm so close to passing out that it wasn't funny anymore. But somehow I made it up there and finished the race with my best PR at that time. I felt accomplished and rejuvinated. Funny how those things happen. You tired one second, and the next, you feel like a million bucks.
Needless to say, the team did alright. We came in 2nd for girl's varsity and boy's junior varsity. We came in 1st for girl's junior varsity as well.
