For the first real time, I was going to be on my own without my family. When I say first real time, I don't mean sleepovers at other people's house...that doesn't count. Anyway, we got out of school at 12 to meet up in the parking lot where the bus was. All those hours slaved selling shrimp and picking up trash got us a really nice bus. It had comfy seats and everything. When it was time to leave, everybody was pumped. I had my Ipod and was ready for this long ass trip, 4 hours to be exact. As time went by, I noticed how my back started to hurt a little. I was switching positions it seemed every ten minutes. The person sitting next to me also changed. When we first left, it was Tim. But by the time we got to the hotel, somehow it had switched to Courtney. Oh well...our first stop was the course itself. We walked it like we do the other courses and my first impression was that this course will rock my socks. After reviewing the course, we went to the hotel. We wouldn't be there for a while though. We would need to wash up and get ready for dinner. I had no idea what restaraunt where we were going to tell you the truth. Turns out we were going to Golden Coral. Are you kidding me? Oh well...they had good fried chicken. Haha...after dinner, I was ready for bed. Turns out we had a team meeting first though. There Joe and Mug went over the course and conditions and what-not. Soon that ended and I was ready for bed. I was already in my pajama pants so I would just slip into bed. Turns out that was harder than it seems. With roomates like John, Wade, and Tim, I'd would need sleeping pills or cough medicine to get to sleep. For some reason, Wade and John kept playing the same damn annoying game. They couldn't stop laughing and it was really start to get on my nerves.
So sleepy time comes finally and I'm cold as a bitch. We didn't know how to turn off the AC and the room must of been 30 degrees. I don't know how, but I was able to get warm enough to get some sleep. But soon enough it was time to get up. Darn...I had slept well.
We got up at 6:30 to eat breakfast. Note to self, never eat waffles from a hotel ever again! That stuff was gross. Good apple juice though. Ten minutes later we're off on the road to the big race, the Greensburo Invitational. I had been fine for the whole trip untill I got there. Right then, the nerves started getting to me. I knew this was trouble from the start.
I'll skip the next 20 minutes cause it's pretty boring. I'll just get to the race...
My heart was thumping fast! I was one of 220 runners out there racing. The first mile was fine for me to tell you the truth. By the time I was at the 2nd mile, I started to feel queasy. And wouldn't you know it, I puked like I did at Fork Union...during a race! I continued on to my finishing point, which was about a mile away. Pretty soon it started to get a little warm. My uniform was already soaked. The sweat just doubled now. My eyes were burning with sweat and I knew I was going to have to grind it out. Anyway, I'm turning to the last hill which is wear I could see the finish line. I could see my time, and it was a minute over my PR. Yuck...it would only get worse. I figured I could finish with a time of like 25:30...nope. Right near the ending I get sick again. I couldn't stop though. I had to keep going. I was literally running and throwing up at the same time. Defenitely not a pretty sight. But I finished at 25:57...not what I was hoping for. Joe noticed my dissapointment and told me it was just one of those days, everybody has them. This made me feel better, but by not a whole lot. After cleaning up and changing into some new clothes I went to have some alone time. I needed to think about some stuff, and I couldn't do that near everybody.
Anyway, after the awards ceremony we got to the road to go home. We stopped at CiCi's pizza for lunch and continued to make our way home. I fell asleep for about an hour while listening to Rascal Flatts. So did everyone else actually...weird...oh well. We finally got back and I made my way to pops who took me home. i was glad to be back to tell you the truth. I missed my bed with acceptable AC control.
